A SELECTION of Year 4 and Year 5 pupils from Herringham Primary Academy recently had the opportunity to work with Link Ethiopia and Kinetika to create a flag design from Batik.

Kinetika showed the pupils examples of Batik flags made by Ethiopian pupils that illustrated the culture they live in. It was then down to Herringham pupils to create their own designs with images and scenes of the local culture from Tilbury & Chadwell.

These designs were wax printed then painted. The final flag from Herringham pupils will be taken to Ethiopia.

Head of School, Mrs Sam Otto, said “The pupils really enjoyed expressing their local culture through their designs. I am sure they will be excited to know that the pupils in Ethiopia will get the chance to see all of their hard work and understand some of the culture from the area that our pupils live in too.”
