A COCKER spaniel puppy is recovering from what the attending RSPCA inspector called one of the worst wounds he’d ever seen.
Guinness was rushed to the RSPCA Harmsworth Memorial Animal Hospital in London for emergency treatment after being found collapsed with an infected and gaping wound in his neck in Biggin Lane in Grays, Essex.
Inspector Joe White said it looked as though he had been left with a collar that was too small for him and had gradually cut into his neck.
Mr White said: “I could not believe it – it was one of the worst wounds I have seen in my whole time as an RSPCA inspector. It is so deep and looks extremely painful. I have seen some awful things, but this one really hit me… it is so sad.
“How anyone could neglect this poor puppy in this way and ignore such an awful wound that so obviously needed treatment is beyond me.
“He is only around eight months old and so friendly and full of love, despite everything he has been through. He didn’t even whimper when vets were treating him.”
Inspectors are trying to locate the puppy’s owner, but while he has a chip, the details are not up to date, it reads: “Puppy Number 2”.
Anyone with information about Guinness and his injuries should call the RSPCA’s appeal line on 0300 123 8018.

God help Puppy Number 1.
