AN East Tilbury mum who swapped dentistry for housebuilding has been shortlisted for a top trainee award.
Amy Fordham is a national finalist in the Persimmon Homes Young Achiever Awards in the Sales Trainee category.
Amy, who lives in East Tilbury, began work with Persimmon Homes Essex just over a year ago after deciding on a change in career.
She had been working as a dental nurse before having her son, Freddie, who will be two in February.
Amy, 22, said: “While I was on maternity leave three people in my family were looking to move house.
“We went to view some houses and I just caught the bug. I could imagine myself helping other people find their dream home, so when the job with Persimmon came up, I jumped at the chance.
“I started as a trainee but now I have been promoted to sales adviser and I now look after The Boulevards site in East Tilbury.
“I like speaking to different people and showing them around the showhome. It’s great.
“To be nominated for this award is great. To win it would be the icing on the cake.”
Amy, who coincidentally lives on The Boulevards development where she works, will find out whether she has won the award at a prize-giving event at Persimmon PLC headquarters in York on November 11.
Kim Oates, head of sales at Persimmon Homes Essex, said: “Amy has been fantastic since she started with us a little over 12 months ago.
“She is a bubbly personality who is great with the customers and really goes out of her way to help them.
“She deserves this nomination and we wish her the best of luck at the prize-giving.”
