Football: East Thurrock impress away at Whitehawk

Vanarama National League South

Whitehawk 2 v 3 East Thurrock United

EAST Thurrock United survived a second half fightback by hosts Whitehawk to go eighth in the National League South.

With just four minutes gone, Sam Higgins drove home his second of the league season on his second start to give Rocks the lead.

And with 15 minutes played the scoreline was doubled when Joe Gardner burst through after a neat through ball and he showed great composure to round the keeper and slide the ball home.

Two became three 10 minutes later and it was a free-kick by Tom Wraight which left the keeper flat-footed.

Whitehawk looked for a route back into the match and they got one on the stroke of half-time when Ahmed Abdulla scored with a powerful drive into the far corner.

And they `won` the second half with a goal from Danny Mills 11 minutes from time, but they weren`t able to find a leveller.
