Tilbury FC has had one of their best weeks of football this season thanks to two successive wins in two away matches. Brentwood Town was the first and the team stunned the opposition with a 3-0 win. New signing Jack Barham scored on his debut for the club, much to the delight of manager Gary Henty and fans. It was also the third clean sheet in a row for goalkeeper Lee Butcher, who is really showing a lot of confidence in his play of late.
The confidence was definitely flowing for the next match against Waltham Abbey, however a slow first half meant that, despite taking an early lead after 13 minutes, Tilbury were behind again after 35 minutes. The team managed to equalise before half time which left the game finely balanced. A win at the time would see Tilbury move up into the playoffs, so it was important that the team rallied together and came back stronger in the second half. The team’s performance in the second half as much better and the match was secured by two goals from the new star Jack Barham, who also claimed man of the match. Young Barham has made the perfect start for the club and will shortly become a fan favourite with continued performances such as that. The final score ended 4-2 to Tilbury.
The Dockers team had to secure these victories, if they were to stay within range of the playoff spots. At the time the team moved into fifth in the league, but it was short lived as other results later in the week pushed them back down to sixth again. An unfortunate case as fifth is the highest they’d been all season.
The next two matches will be difficult with both teams, Brightlingsea Regent and Cheshunt, sitting above them in the league. Hopefully these past two results and the spectacular performances from Jack Barham will push the team on to the much desired play-offs.
