WORKS to replace the knee-high wooden fencing around the playing fields on Billet Lane, Stanford le Hope, have been completed following concerns raised by local residents.
The fencing has been installed as part of target hardening measures to prevent unauthorised cars and other vehicles from driving on the fields.
The existing fencing, which had been there for many years and was deteriorating, was replaced like-for-like with new knee rail fencing around the popular playing fields.
Portfolio Holder for Environment, Cllr Pauline Tolson, said: “The Billet fields are much-loved by the local community and it’s good to see they’ll continue to be protected.
“The target hardening measures across the borough makes sure these popular parks and green spaces are unspoiled by selfish individuals.
“We are committed – as has been demonstrated over the last few months – we will take action on illegal incursions throughout Thurrock. The cost of enforcing and clear up of an encampment far outweighs installing preventative measures.”
