Has Thurrock Council gone to the police over flags controversy?

SPECULATION has grown that Thurrock Council has contacted Essex Police regarding comments made on social media over the flags that flew across the borough.

Permission was granted to the Aveley-based Nicky Mason Charity with highly vocal backing from UKIP to put flags up in the weeks leading up to Remembrance Sunday.

When there were indications that the flags would be coming down, there were howls of protest from members of the public as well as a number of UKIP councillors.

Now it appears that the flags may be down but the matter is far from over.

YT asked Thurrock Council if they could confirm that they had been in contact with the Essex Police.

A spokesperson said: “It would inappropriate to comment on any police contact at this time”.
