SIXTEEN months ago, it was announced that JD Wetherspoon had bought the State Cinema in George Street Grays.
The news that the pub chain was going to invest £3 million into the investment and create over 100 jobs was welcomed by many people.
But since then there has been radio silence. Perhaps we failed to ask when it was going to open.
So we asked Wetherspoons and they told us that they did not have an opening date.
A spokesperson for Thurrock Council said: “Thurrock Council is excited about the ongoing regeneration work across Grays town centre and looks forward to welcoming the JD Wetherspoon’s brand to the town.
“Since JD Wetherspoon acquired the State Cinema the Council has been advising and supporting the company to enable the former cinema to be brought back to life as soon as possible.
“The Council understands that options and proposals are being prepared by advisors for JD Wetherspoon to consider and decide upon”.
