ORMISTON Park Academy is joining forces with the West Ham United Foundation and West Ham United Ladies to provide students who aspire to reach the top levels of football with a unique opportunity.
Together, the Aveley school and West Ham are launching a programme that will allow students to combine exceptional academy style football coaching from West Ham Officers and UEFA licenced coaches, with the unique opportunity to study for A-Levels, choosing from the 20 A-Level subjects on offer at Ormiston Park Academy, or BTEC National Level 2 and 3 Sports diplomas.
The four year programme, which is the first of its kind, will be run at Ormiston Park Academy from September 2017 and is open to 16-18 year old male and female students. Trials for the scheme will be held at Ormiston Park Academy on 13th February, 10th April and 30th May, from 1-3pm.
Successful students will benefit from a full training schedule including days spent at the West Ham First Team and Academy training grounds, the opportunity to gain coaching qualifications, compete in the Conference Youth Alliance League and even the prospect of securing employment with the West Ham United Foundation.
After two years, students participating on the scheme will advance onto the West Ham United Foundation Applied Community Sport Degree at the University of East London, to further achieve their goals.
The programme will also be benefiting students of all ages at Ormiston Park Academy, with two community Hub Officers appointed at the school to deliver a range of after-school activities for all students in the newly-built sporting facilities at the academy. In addition, students on the programme will have opportunity to give back by taking part in a Mentoring and Leadership Programme, collaborating with Year 7 students.
Principal of Ormiston Park Academy, Huw Derrick, said:
“We are delighted to be partnering with the West Ham United Foundation and West Ham United Ladies to offer this fantastic opportunity. The programme will provide students with an invaluable and unique chance to develop skills outside of the classroom alongside a rigorous academic focus.
“At Ormiston Park Academy, we are committed to raising the aspirations of our students, and to ensuring they reach their full potential. This programme will allow students to make the most of the newly-built sporting facilities at Ormiston Park and inspire our younger pupils to go even further, with access to even more activities outside of the classroom. I look forward to watching the students achieve their goals.”
