The Essex Schools Cross-Country Championships were held at the popular, but tough, Hilly Fields venue in Colchester.

Despite several late withdrawals from some prominent athletes the Harriers had a good notable input.

Best effort came from Hayley Instance who was second in the Junior Girls race. This follows her selection for the East Region’s mini-marathon team at the London event in April. Hayley has improved all winter and can look forward to some good results in the upcoming championships.

Finnlay Lowe pulled out a great performance in the Junior Boys event winning his county school’s vest, by finishing 6th. In the same race Dylan Harrod was 32nd.

In the Intermediate boys event Sarab Dhillon led home the borough’s only complete team. He was 22nd just in front of Ben Prior who was three places behind. Charlie Power 35th, Reece Scott 49th, Henri Willett 54th and George Wheatley 55th closed the team in for 5th place.

In the junior girls race Keira Scott, a former Harrier was 8th, while Demi Eves was 11th – both very useful efforts.

Consistent Lucie Ball was 27th in the Inter Girls with Amy Raven 35th.
