THE McDonald’s restaurants on in Orsett and Tilbury have been awarded ‘Platinum’ at the annual independent Loo of the Year awards – dubbed the ‘Toilet Oscars’ – which recognises and rewards the best washrooms across the UK.
Franchisee Gerry Byrne and crew scooped up the ‘Platinum Awards’ for the quality of the toilet facilities at the restaurants, with the awards judged on a wide range of criteria including cleanliness and hygiene, fixtures and fittings, air quality and décor.
Introduced in 1987, and promoted by the British Toilet Association, the awards aim to encourage the highest standards in ‘away from home’ toilets across the UK.
Loo of the Year contenders, with the owner’s or manager’s permission, can be nominated by anyone: staff, customers, visitors, managers, owners or contractors. Following nomination, the entries are critiqued and receive a grading ranging from Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum following an unannounced visit from an independent Loo of the Year Awards inspector.
Gerry Byrne, who owns and operates seven restaurants across Essex and Havering, commented: “I am proud to maintain excellent services for our customers across all my Thurrock restaurants. My staff and I are committed to offering our customers the best experience possible, and upholding the standards of our bathrooms is part of that. It’s great to be recognised for our hard work and we look forward to our customer’s seeing the fantastic facilities!’
