A campaign has been launched by West Tilbury residents to save the village pub, The King’s Head, by raising sufficient funds in the coming months to buy the pub from property developers and continue more than 250 years of trading.
Thurrock Council recently accepted the historic Grade II listed pub as an Asset of Community Value (ACV), following a detailed nomination process, protecting the site from future development and providing an opportunity for it to serve the community as a pub and restaurant for at least the next five years following a year of closure.
Friends of the King’s Head have taken up their right to bid and have until May to raise enough money to buy the freehold of the property. They have established a private company limited by guarantee to achieve their target through an initial share offer.
“We are appealing to all those who wish to help us retain the King’s Head as a thriving social hub and a key asset within the West Tilbury Conservation Area to contact us” commented Peter Adams, a Director of the newly formed company, the West Tilbury Community Pub Ltd.
“We have already received funding pledges from friends in Thurrock and further afield, and also generous support from the Plunkett Foundation and CAMRA, but the ‘Save the King’s Head’ campaign is just beginning“, he added.
