Football: South Essex College win through to final

SEC Foot

SPORT students from South Essex College qualified for the Essex Colleges cup final in style by winning their semi-final match 5-0.

The students who study on the Thurrock Football Academy course at the College’s Grays Campus beat The Sweyne Park School at Belhus Park on Wednesday afternoon.

They will now play either Shenfield or Havering in the Essex County Schools & Colleges U19 League Div 3 cup final in March.

The team started off strong with one goal in the first half and most of the possession. In the second half, they really showed some class putting four goals past Sweyne Park including a fantastic free kick from captain, Ben McGill.

Thurrock Course Leader and Manager, Elliot Stamps, was confident his squad would make it to the finals. He said: “The guys played a great game. The energy levels remained high throughout the match, we should have scored more goals to be honest.

“We’ll be busy training and preparing for the final now. I can’t get too excited, there’s still one more important game to win!”

Football Academy Level 3 Extended Diploma is offered at the College’s Thurrock and Southend Campus. The course prepares students to enter the sport industry. For more information, visit www.southessex.ac.uk
