Athletics: Indoors triumphs for Thurrock Harriers

Sportshall Regional Finals 2017

Well done to all the young athletes who competed in the Sportshall Regional Finals 2017 at Hatfield this weekend (Sun 12 Feb 2017)

50 Young athletes from around the county (10 from Thurrock), took part in a series of competitions over the last couple of months with the goal of being selected to represent Essex in the regionals finals.

Those with the best scores were selected into the team.

Numerous Thurrock Harrier athletes were eligible for team selection, all put on a red shirt to compete in various events on the day.

It was a great atmosphere, as always! Results at the end of the competition were as follows:

Under 11 girls 1st place!
Under 11 boys 1st place!
Under 13 girls 3rd place
Under 13 boys 4th place
Under 15 girls 2nd place
Under 15 boys 4th place

Best results in years, the Essex Team are definitely rising up the ranks very quickly, fast on the heels of the regional winners Norfolk!

Congratulations to Thurrocks very own, Theo Adesina for coming 1st place overall in his age group, winning the U15 Male All-rounder champion competition, which now means he qualifies for the National Final in March. Fellow Essex athlete Mia Chantree U15g ,from Chelmsford also won the best female All-rounder, excellent results for the Essex team.

The Essex managers for U13 & U15 are both from Thurrock Harriers and are very proud of all of the kids in the Essex teams, especially all of the Thurrock athletes.

Essex & Eastern Indoor Championship 2017

More amazing results for the Harriers from last weekends Essex & Eastern Indoor championships at Lee valley.

Ruby Bridger U15g won double gold medals, Essex & Eastern with a massive PB in the LJ, She first jumped a PB of 5.06m in the first round and in her final jumped another PB of 5.11m to clinch the sought after title, which now ranks her 1st in Essex & 2nd in the East for U15 Girl. She also won a bronze medal for Essex in the shot with a throw of 9.02m.

Sola Taiwo U15G gained a PB of 9.57s in the 60M hurdles heat and another PB of 9.51s in the final to win her a bronze medal for Essex . Sola is now ranked 3rd in Essex and 5th in the East.

Daniel Ogutuga U15b won 4 medals wearing the Thurrock Harriers vest, he gained a massive PB of 12.m in 5 kgs shot which won him two gold medals and has now ranked him first in Essex & the East. He also won 2 silver medals in Long jump with a PB jump of 6.18m which rank him 2nd in Essex & the East in his age group.

Also there for Thurrock Harriers was U17m William Adeyeye, who won 2 silver medals for the 60m in the time of 7.18s, he is now ranking 1st in Essex and 2nd in the East, He also won 2 bronze medals in the 60m hurdles race with a PB time of 8.29s, he is now ranked 2nd in Essex & the East.
