THURROCK Council is hosting a number of events as part of International Women’s Day on 8 March.
The theme of this year’s event is #BeBoldForChange, asking everyone to take ground-breaking action that truly drives the greatest change for women.
On the day, residents are invited to come along to Civic Offices between 10am to 4pm to meet and talk to groups making Thurrock a better place for women.
There will also be a ‘walk and talk’, starting from outside Civic Offices at 2.30pm, were residents can find out more and make new connections on the go.
At the Old Courthouse, a seminar called ‘Empowering women in business’ is available. The aim is inspiring women in business to be bold, confident and successful. The seminar will run twice during the day – 10am to midday and 1pm to 3pm.
Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods, Cllr Sue MacPherson, said: “International Women’s Day is not only a celebration of how far we have come for gender parity, but highlights the work still left to do.
“According to the World Economic Forum, the gender gap won’t close until entirely until 2186. If we want to see genuine equality in our children’s children’s lifetimes – or preferably sooner – we need to act now.”
