Aveley win Thurrock derby clash

Tilbury’s disastrous February finished with another defeat on a cold and windy afternoon on their final ever visit to Millfield.

Tilbury went into the game on the back of four successive defeats, but they started well and took the lead inside seven minutes, when Lewis Francis on the right found Danny Norton, who stabbed home. The home side fought back quickly and were level two minutes later when Michael Toner struck the bar from distance and Kris Newby was on hand to smash home the rebound. After a lull in the game Aveley scored the winner just past the half hour when a mix up in Tilbury’s defence saw Jeremiah Maja take advantage and slot in to an empty net.

Aveley had three good efforts to increase the lead, with Dan Odama denied by a fine Louis Hawes save.

Tilbury started the second half well and Reece Hewitt lobbed over missing a golden chance on in the 47th minute. Kurt Smith then saw the post rattled as the visitors pushed for an equaliser, but Aveley held out to take the points and still have a slim chance of reaching the play offs. Tilbury meanwhile sit in twelfth place in the league.

Aveley Scorers – Kris Newby (9′), Jeremiah Maja (33′)

Tilbury: Louis Hawes, Conor Mead, Reece Conway, Jack Pooley, Joe Nightingill (67′), Danny Norton, Lewis Francis, Jack Carlile, Kurt Smith, Ryan Melaugh (Lewis Jaggs 32′), Reece Hewitt (Neil Richmond 76′).

Tilbury Scorer – Danny Norton (7′)
