On 25th February, over 330 Scouts and Guides from Thurrock travelled into the capital for their joint District/Division Commissioners Challenge.
The 45 teams became detectives for the day as they were tasked with completing 4 treasure trails and solve clues along the way.
The day kicked off with a dedicated train from Stanford-le-Hope and Grays Stations to Fenchurch Street, before the teams headed out to their first trail.
The four trails saw the young people exploring the upmarket area of Knightsbridge; learning about London’s legal history in Temple; following in Dick Whittington’s footsteps from Mansion House to City Hall; and discovering hidden treasures around the City of London’s square mile.
At the end of each trial, the teams called into central command to provide the answer to their clues. Each team also had the chance to earn bonus points by taking ‘selfies’ at various landmarks along the routes.
The competition couldn’t have been any closer, with 3 teams in the Scout and Guide competition tying for first place! The winners were eventually decided by time taken to complete the trails, with Stifford Sea Scouts emerging victorious. In the Explorer and Senior Section competition, it was Fornax Explorers who took home the win.
A huge thanks has to go to c2c who generously provided a dedicated service both to and from London. Thanks also go to the organising team for ensuring a smooth and enjoyable day and to all of the adults who walked with the teams.
