Football: Rocks put four past Stortford

Vanarama National League South

Bishops Stortford 0 v 4 East Thurrock United

THIS win took Rocks to the 45 point ‘survival’ target set by manager John Coventry, which means that barring a miracle, the Rocks will start a second season of playing National South football come August.

The Rocks welcomed back injury victims Ben Marlow and Ryan Sammons as they comfortably swept aside relegation threatened Stortford.

Covo’s Rocks cruised into a three goal lead inside the opening half hour, with Marlow instrumental in all three.

On six minutes, Simon Peddie chased what looked like a lost cause down the right, kept the ball in play and found Reece Harris whose cross was headed down by Tom Wraight for Marlow to volley home.

Eighteen minutes later Wraight smashed home Rocks second, reacting first after Marlow’s volley had struck the crossbar.

It was soon 3-0 as Marlow left the home keeper floundering with a superb strike from well outside the box.

Twelve minutes into the second half Colchester United loanee Femi Akinwande rounded off a splendid move by tucking home his first goal for the Rocks.

Rocks were in complete control for the remainder of the game, and apart from one solitary effort which hit the crossbar, Stortford were never a threat.

Next up for the Rocks is a home game with Oxford City on Saturday.
