SPOKE-TACULAR staff at a local intu Lakeside business are getting geared up to complete a mega 268-mile virtual bike ride in exchange for donations to Comic Relief.
intu Lakeside Specsavers has joined stores nationwide to support Red Nose Day by pledging to raise at least £300 this year – to help change countless lives both here in the UK and across Africa.
Staff will take it in turns to have a stint riding on the in-store exercise bike to complete the mammoth mileage. They were inspired by the Specsavers Red Nose Day poster featuring the Mona Lisa, and decided to set a 268 mile target – the distance from intu Lakeside shopping centre to the Lourve Museum in France, in which the Mona Lisa is showcased.
Jay Visrolia, store director at Specsavers at intu Lakeside, says: ‘We have had such a fun time supporting Red Nose Day in previous years, so we couldn’t resist doing something for this great cause again. Seeing as the Specsavers Red Nose Day poster was of the Mona Lisa, someone had the crazy idea of ‘cycling’ to the Louvre.’
‘The whole team are up for the challenge and we’re sure we’ll have lots of fun while doing it. And, of course, we hope to raise lots of money for Red Nose Day 2017. (https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/specsaversteamlakers)
Specsavers has been a Red Nose Day partner since 2015. Stores nationwide will be selling wacky waving Red Nose Day glasses – available in adult and children’s sizes – for just £2, with money raised going straight to Comic Relief.
