Weston Super Mare 0 v 3 East Thurrock United

A late brace from Colchester United loanee Femi Akinwande and one from Reece Harris gave Rocks the points from their trip to Somerset. It means John Coventry’s boys completed their fifth National South ‘double’ of the season.
The home side enjoyed the better of the openings in the first half, with Lukas Lidakavicius making a couple of good saves to keep the scores level at the break.
Rocks were enjoying much more possession as the second half wore on, but the game never really burst into life until the closing twenty minutes.
After Tom Wraight had seen a shot superbly tipped over by Seagulls keeper Luke Purnell, Rocks went in front on 72 minutes when Akinwande burst onto a through ball, prodding it past Purnell.
Rocks made it two on 87 minutes. Livewire Harry Honesty was tripped in full flight by Chris Barker, and from the resultant short free kick Reece Harris curled the ball into a crowded goalmouth, Wraight just failed to get a touch, but this did enough to deceive the keeper who could only watch as the ball found the far corner of the net unaided.
The powerful Akinwande made it three as the game moved into added time, shrugging off a couple of defenders to fire home.
The home side did score a late consolation through a Bradley Ash header, but it was too little too late and Rocks go into Tuesday’s Essex Senior Cup Final on a high.
