THE DEPUTY leader of Thurrock Labour slammed the council for “rejecting questions from members of the public”.
At the beginning of the meeting, the mayor of Thurrock announced that there were no questions from members of the public.
Cllr Barbara Rice got to her feet and made a “point of order”.
As you can see from our film below, cllr Rice stated that “There were questions from the public but they were rejected”.
At this point, veteran campaigner, Mr Peter Perrin, who has been asking questions at meetings for over a decade, got to his feet, to make a very visual protest.
YT understands that the proposed questions from the public covered the subjects of extra payments for this living in sheltered or shared accommodation and adult social care.
YT asked Thurrock Council whether there had been any changes or tightening up in their system of accepting questions?
A Thurrock Council spokesperson said: “The Council’s Constitution is agreed by all Members of the Council and gives very clear guidance on the submission of questions. This procedure has not been ‘tightened up’ as you suggest and the procedure on questions has remain unchanged for many years.
