Government pledge money to help Thurrock fix their roads

AN extra £481,000 has been pledged to support Thurrock in its ambition to fix up its roads.

The National Productivity Fund money from the Department of Transport will resurface roads which have been selected following complaints and service requests from residents.

Cllr Brian Little, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport said: “These areas would not usually fall within our intervention level – but they are clearly deteriorating.

“This additional money is very welcomed. We know the improvements this money will bring will prevent issues becoming worse – as well as improving access to residential estates and areas.

“This new money is added to the £1.77million pot for basic highways maintenance, plus the £153,000 from the Pothole Action Fund.

“We know pot holes are a blight on our roads, but we continue to make our ‘Fill it’ campaign a priority.”
