STUDENTS and staff from the Food Technology department recently paid a visit to the renowned restaurant in London that serves all food in the dark – Dans Le Noir.

The restaurant provides the following experience…‘Dining in absolute darkness, being hosted and served by a visually impaired person, will change your perspective of the world by inverting your point of view. It is a sensory experience that awakens your senses and enables you to completely re-evaluate your perception. Unusual, you will discover a sensory journey, a human exchange & a social conviviality…’

To say the group were intrigued and nervous was an understatement!

They chose from a red menu (meat and vegetables) a blue menu (fish and seafood) or a white menu (surprise), the group were then treated to a delicious 3 course meal, finding their way around the plate in the dark and guessing what they had been served.

Mrs Sarah Fletcher, Assistant Principal, said “Upon leaving the restaurant we were shown what we had eaten and this sparked much discussion of what we had got right and wrong. Some of the students loved the experience, some weren’t so keen but all had a night they will never forget! It truly was a unique experience and as always our students were an absolute credit to the Academy. We are now planning on where to go next!”
