Stephen Metcalfe MP calls for more powers to address traveller incursions

STEPHEN Metcalfe, local Member of Parliament for South Basildon & East Thurrock has confirmed he has written to the Prime Minister’s policy co-ordinator asking for tougher measures to deal with traveller incursions to be included in the forthcoming Conservative Manifesto to protect our local environment. This to include more powers for the police to act on their own authority.

For too long there has been the appearance of one rule for the law-abiding majority and another for travellers who flout existing laws and believe themselves to be above those the rest of us abide by. From trespassing to planning breaches, and most recently mass fly tipping.

This has got to stop! If new powers are needed then it is time a Conservative Government deliver them so that we ALL abide by the same laws, suffering the same sanctions if those laws are broken.

We have to draw a line in the sand and say enough is enough! This is not about life style or heritage this is all about respecting the law!

Stephen added “If I am fortunate to be re-elected I will be taking the issue up personally with the Prime Minister, Home Secretary and Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to find a proper solution to these ongoing problems.”
