ON Sunday 4 June, 17 members of the intu Lakeside team will take part in the Thurrock Cycle Marathon, cycling an impressive 21 miles for the centre’s charity of the year, Treetops School.
As part of its charity partnership with Treetops School, intu Lakeside has committed to building a new sensory room at the school, based in Thurrock. The funds that the cycling team raise will go towards fulfilling intu Lakeside’s commitment and making a difference to the lives of the pupils at Treetops School.
The team has set themselves a target of raising £1,000 through sponsorship for the cycle marathon and are encouraging friends, family, colleagues and customers to donate via the following link – https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/intulakesidecyclemarathon.
Of the 17 members taking part, 11 have not been on a bike in years. Therefore, Essex based company, Trailnet, has stepped in to help and is generously supplying bikes for team members that do not have the necessary equipment. intu Lakeside wants to ensure that everybody can take part and raise as much money for this worthy charity as possible and without Trailnet, this would not have been possible.
Hana Gunfield, Community Development Manager at intu Lakeside, says: “Treetops School is an amazing charity and we are delighted to see our staff getting on board with our fundraising efforts and pushing themselves out of their comfort zone to help others. Treetops School is a local charity that our staff are very passionate about. The school is close to the hearts of many staff members and we look forward to raising as much money as possible.”
She continues: “Here at intu Lakeside, we encourage staff, and shoppers, to travel sustainably and we hope that this event will help to raise awareness of alternative modes of transport ahead of National Bike Week from 10 – 18 June.”
