2230 hrs

ESSEX Police were contacted at 7.55pm on Monday June 26 with concerns for the welfare of a man on a bridge on the A1089 in Grays.

Officers spoke to the man and he was brought to safety. He was detained under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital.

The road was closed in both directions until about 9.30pm while emergency services were on scene.

Roads now cleared.

Reports that police are speaking to a distressed male near to the bridge over the Dock Approach Road.
