South Essex College high praised by Ofsted

FOLLOWING a recent Ofsted inspection South Essex College has been awarded a grade 2 – ‘good’ – a significant milestone for the education and training provider as well as the wider community.

Inspectors’ findings across the College’s sites in Basildon, Southend and Thurrock makes South Essex College one of only a few all-round further education providers to be recognised as ‘good’ in Essex.

The report in particular recognised improvements the College has made to its provision and outcomes for students.

The report highlighted:

· A high proportion of learners aged 16 to 18 and access to higher education learners progress to further education or training at a higher level, including increasing numbers who move on to higher education.

· Apprentices and learners on vocational courses develop skills that prepare them well for progression to the next steps of learning or employment.

· Learners receive good support in acquiring new skills and knowledge through the extra help available to them from a wide range of support staff, regular reviews of their progress and useful online resources.

· Teachers and assessors are highly qualified and skilled in their vocational subjects. They use their knowledge well to provide good levels of instruction and guidance during lessons.
· Learners benefit from either external work experience or alternative, often innovative, work-related learning.
Principal and Chief Executive of the College, Angela O’Donoghue CBE, said: “This grade is a result of the hard work and dedication of our staff and students.

“The grade 2 better reflects our position as the College that strives to provide a positive learning environment for our students so they can learn, grow and achieve their ambitions.”
