ORSETT and Thurrock’s game at Gidea Park & Romford CC on Saturday ended in a pulsating tie.
The visitors were put into bat and were struggling at 29-3, but Umaad Sultan (45) and Mark Pavitt (59) put on a vital 102 runs for the fourth wicket. Daniel Laird’s unbeaten 33 from 30 balls and a 23 off 19 deliveries from Agha Tahir boosted the total to 210 from O&T’s 50 overs.
Gidea Park’s reply went one way and then the other.
Zisan Abedin retired hurt early in the innings, but later on returned to the crease and made a determined 54 not out. O&T kept plugging away and were rewarded with regular wickets, with Paul Bennett and Nawaz Ahmad Jan picking up five between them. In an absorbing finale, it was left to Umaad Sultan to bowl the final over.
With the hosts needing five to win off the last ball, a boundary was hit through third man to ensure the scores were tied at the end a thrilling match.
