TRENITALIA train operator c2c and local community groups jointly known as Tilbury Spirit, combine to give Tilbury residents a free day out to Southend-on-Sea on Saturday 19 August 2017.

More than 250 passengers made up of up to 60 local families were treated to a great day out in Southend, courtesy of c2c coupled with special birthday announcements made by the train driver for all who were celebrating their birthdays over the weekend. Whilst some have come faithfully each year, many of the Tilbury residents had never been on the trains before. Residents were lost for choice, as in addition to the usual beach, High Street and Adventure Island, many stayed for the Southend Carnival which was coincidentally happening on the same day!

Yewande Kannike, Chief Executive of One Community said “We are thrilled that c2c have decided to give us this lovely treat for people to meet, share and enjoy a day out together! This year, the National Lottery are sponsoring a series of events to celebrate the rich cultural heritage that we have here in Tilbury.

c2c Duty Station Manager Maria Kemp said: “We’ve worked closely with the Tilbury Spirit community group over the last few years, and we’re delighted our special private train proved so popular and so many local people enjoyed their free day out.”

The Mayor of Thurrock who came to see local residents off said “It is great that c2c give the local community this wonderful opportunity every year’

One of the Tilbury residents said: “The day was very nice and went smoothly, everyone was friendly and I would personally like to thank One Community staff for their commitment to the local community, c2c for the train and the very helpful security staff – nothing was too much trouble for them.
Tilbury Spirit also in partnership with c2c train maintain the beautiful flower beds at Tilbury Town station.
