ORSETT and Thurrock overcome a poor start away from home Saturday to beat South Woodford by 38 runs to remain top of Division 1 with 2 games remaining.
After losing the toss and being put into bat, O&T started poorly, losing opening bat Ayub and skipper Bennett with just 1 run on the board.
With a further wicket falling leaving promotion chasing O&T 31-3, in came Mark Pavitt who batted superbly in an innings which included 7 fours and 4 sixes. After vital partnerships of 54 with Laird (11) and 45 with Laws (35), M Pavitt departed for a fantastic 75 from 85 balls. Orsett & Thurrock finished their innings with a competitive score of 205-9 from their 50 overs.
Similarly to South Woodford, Orsett & Thurrock managed to take early wickets with some accurate swing bowling from Sultan (2) and Ahmad Jan (1) to leave the hosts at 31-3. As Orsett and Thurrock have done so many times this season, they managed to take regular wickets with Shahid Khan 3-52 from 15 overs being the pick of the bowlers. Ahmad Jan took the final wicket to bowl South Woodford out for 167 from 42.2 overs to leave Orsett and Thurrock 6 points clear at the top of Division 1 with 2 games remaining.
