Friday 13th will see the fifth Thurrock Soup

THE successful social enterprise event, Thurrock Soup, returns to Grays for its fifth event on Friday 13 October.

Thurrock Soup is a series of events to inspire social enterprise and business ideas from the local community and supports ways to access and secure funding for future projects.

To take part, participants are invited to treat themselves to a bowl of tasty soup and a roll for £5. This will also give them entry to vote. The money goes into a pot and those with inspirational ideas they wish to share get a chance to pitch to the group.

Everyone is then asked to vote on their favourite idea and the winning entry receives all the £5s collected. Previous Soup winners have received £125-£180 to use towards setting up their business.

A total of £660 has been raised at previous events to fund these social enterprises.

Cabinet Member responsible for community development, Cllr Sue Little, said: “Many of these ideas need a little boost at the beginning to get started – but they can make a big contribution to local community.

“I hope many people attend the event, share their ideas and contribute to their local community.”

The event will be held at Community House, Grays on Friday 13 October. For more information, please go to thurrock.gov.uk/events
