STUDENTS from the Gateway Academy recently participated in a ‘Spirited Arts’ National Art competition, organised by NATRE (National Association of RE Teachers).
Whilst this is the first time that Gateway Academy students have taken part, hundreds of schools get involved nationwide attracting entries from over 2,000 students each year. The competition is now in its 14th year.
The topic this year was ‘Art in Heaven’ and students had to create a piece of art focussing on one of five themes; Big Big Questions; Standing up for good; The word of God; Where is God? And Belief in Action. Nine students have now had their artwork entered, so watch this space to see how they do!
Head of Humanities, Mrs Delia Webster, said “I am very proud of our students and their eager participation in their Religious Education lessons here at the Gateway Academy. The Academy are bucking the trend with the teaching of RE in the curriculum and we truly believe in the value it has to our students. It provides a perfect opportunity to explore issues that the students see in the news and the wider world.”
