Corringham care home organises community day

United Nations

RESIDENTS and staff at Collins House Care Home, Corringham have organised a community celebration to mark the UN International Day of Older Persons.

The theme for 2017 is ‘Stepping into the Future: Tapping the Talents, contributions and Participation of Older Persons in Society’.

The event on Sunday 1 October is to show how older people living within a care home can, and do, make a meaningful contribution to civic life.

People of all ages from the Thurrock community are invited to come and join us for an afternoon of fun, entertainment and chat.

On the day there will be a display of watercolour paintings to showcase the talents and skills of our weekly Collins House Art Group; residents will take the lead on stalls offering flower arranging and hand tied cones of sweets to raise money for the residents’ amenity fund.

To complete the fun visitors will be able to buy tea and cakes for a small charge and take part in an indoor sponsored putting activity interacting with residents.

Portfolio Holder responsible for adult social care, Cllr Sue Little, said: “This event has been planned and organised by residents with the support of the activities team of staff and volunteers – and I want to thank them for their hard work.

“Events like these raise the profile of life within residential care and show how Collins House strive to help residents build the future they want.

“I hope people of all ages attend and support this worthwhile event.”

The event at Collins House begins runs from 2pm to 4pm and for more information please contact Collins House on 01375 671 162.
