Gateway Academy students gain valuable work experience

YEAR 11 students at the Gateway Academy recently took part in two weeks’ work experience during the last few weeks of their Year 10 term.

Over 200 students completed a work placement, with some even travelling to London for placements in banks, solicitors and estate agents. Probably the most exciting placement this year was on a fish farm in Louisiana!

Students were complimented on their work ethic and with employer comments such as, “It has been a pleasure having her in our centre, she is like one of the team”, “Dependable and eager to work” and “Phenomenal ability to learn engineering”, the work experience programme seems to be continuing to benefit the young people at the Gateway Academy.

Personal Adviser, Mr Frank Thompson, said “I would like to say a big thank you to the students for doing so well on their placements and making us all very proud here at the Gateway! For many, this has been a great experience and some have been offered part time jobs and apprenticeships. Each year becomes more difficult placing so many students, so we are very grateful to all the employers that continue to give the students this very real-life opportunity.”

For any employers who would like to be part of our work experience programme for next year (25 June to 6 July 2018), we would be delighted to hear from you! Please contact Frank at the school, on 01375 489015 or via email frank.thompson@theglc.org.uk

Pictured are some of the students at their place of work, including two students who joined previous students (who are now employed at their original work experience placement, Ryder & Daly). Just proof that work experience is a valuable tool for students when they leave the Gateway Academy!
