THERE were controversial scenes at Wednesday night’s meeting of Thurrock Council.
Temperatures ran high early on when the portfolio holder for regeneration and husband of Thurrock MP, Jackie Doyle-Price, Cllr Mark Coxshall said Labour councillors do “F*** all”.
His comments came in the middle of a debate on election cycles.
Cllr Coxshall was told to apologise by the chair of the meeting, mayor Tunde Ojetola.
Later on, Little Thurrock Blackshots councillor, Ben Maney was also censured after he directed comments at the public gallery.
The meeting was suspended amid chaotic scenes.
UKIP Thurrock Group Leader, Cllr Graham Snell said: “To compare members of the public to horses shows the utter contempt that the Tory Administration have for Thurrock residents. And to refuse to apologise is outrageous. And they should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.”
Labour councillor for Grays Riverside, Cllr Jane Pothecary went on to social media to describe the Tories behaviour as “disgraceful”.
I was at the meeting last night and heard Coxshall’s uttered expletive. As this is not the first time he has used such language in the Council Chamber and as it shows his contempt of his colleagues on the council, I believe that the Mayor should have expelled him from last night’s meetings and ordered Cllr Gledhill to suspend him forthwith. This is what should have happened but, as the Mayor is a Tory, nothing was done except order Coxshall to make an apology which was as insincere as all Tories are.
With a Husband like
Cllr Coxshall I would rather give lesbianism a go if I was that guys wife, rather than be with him.
