A CONTROVERSIAL UKIP councillor has been “banned” from all council meetings for the rest of the year by his local group.
YT understands that Ockendon councillor Kevin Wheeler had a heated exchange with a member of the public at Wednesday night’s ill-tempered meeting at the civic offices in Grays.
Sources have suggested that a female audience member went outside for “a vape” and was “verbally abused” by Cllr Wheeler.
UKIP group leader, Cllr Graham Snell said: “Cllr Wheeler has been suspended from Council Meetings until the new year.
“We will be carrying out an internal investigation into the matter.”
A spokesperson for Thurrock Council said: “A complaint against an elected Member has been received.
“Thurrock Council takes all complaints very seriously and investigates all such complaints received.
“Appropriate action is taken in all cases”.
