MEMBERS of Thurrock’s LGBT+ community will be holding an event to celebrate Stonewall’s week of LGBT+ equality and you’re invited!
All members of Thurrock’s LGBT+ community, friends and family are welcome to come along to a free screening of “PRIDE” at The Thameside Theatre on Thursday October 5th.
Kristina Jackson, CEO at Thurrock CVS said, ‘We are very proud to support this community event for LGBT+ Thurrock residents, friends and allies. This is a positive step in establishing more social occasions and creating networking and support opportunities.’
Inspired by a true story, “PRIDE” takes place in the summer of 1984, Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers is on strike, prompting a London-based group of gay and lesbian activists to raise money to support the strikers’ families.
Initially rebuffed by the Union, the group identifies a tiny mining village in Wales and sets off to make their donation in person. As the strike drags on, the two groups discover that standing together makes for the strongest union of all.
The event will be a wonderful opportunity to socialise, network and make new friends as well as enjoy an evening of entertainment celebrating the local LGBT+ community.
This event has been supported by Thurrock Community and Voluntary Service and Thurrock Council’s LGBT+ Staff Forum.
Doors will open at 6.45pm for networking before the film will begin at 7.30pm.
As this event has a limited number of spaces, if you would like to come along please book your place in advance via the Thurrock Council website:
