YEAR 3 pupils from Herringham Primary Academy, as well as the other primary schools within the GLC, recently took part in specialist dance classes as part of the Royal Opera House’s ‘Chance to Dance’ programme.
Chance to Dance works with 24 primary schools in Thurrock and the London Boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark to provide a creative introduction to ballet for all Year 3 children through a mix of Royal Ballet demonstrations and practical workshops.
Children identified with enthusiasm and aptitude for dance are invited to join the Chance to Dance Company for up to four years, going to weekly classes locally, attending family days at the Royal Opera House and working towards an annual performance, alongside dancers from the Royal Ballet.
Class teacher at Herringham, Miss Carole Bennett, commented “Chance to Dance is about giving pupils the chance to experience the culture of dance, which many of them would not have had the opportunity or chance to do.
They learn movement, self-control and at the end of their time may be given the opportunity to join the Royal Opera
Chance to Dance is about giving pupils an opportunity to explore movement and ballet dancing in a risk-free and fun environment.”
