GIVE a Gift is returning for the second year this Christmas to help give presents to children in need in Thurrock.
intu Lakeside are once again kindly hosting the tree, but this time have generously donated a whole empty retail shop for us to use – and there are many ways you can get involved.
The new area will be located on the second floor next to McDonalds at the House of Fraser end and will be open from Tuesday 21 November.
HW Wilson, a local building company, have already visited the new shop and agreed to get it in tip-top shape for opening day.
To get things started, the team is looking for local sponsors who would be kind enough to donate some important items, like decorations and wrapping paper.
There are a few ways to get involved, including:
Support us with supplies
We have a small wish list for items we need to make the project a success again.
If you or your business would like to sponsor the project by providing some much needed materials, please get in touch with one of team by visiting thurrock.gov.uk/GIFT
Come and help at the tree for the day or evening
We are on the look-out for super friendly people to help us look after the tree in the evenings and weekends. This would involve taking in donated presents and assisting people who are unfamiliar with the project. If you are interested, please visit our website via the link above and get in touch
Donate a Gift
Like last year, there are many children across the borough who may not wake up to open a present on Christmas morning. Please come along, pick a star and donate a gift, which we will wrap and deliver in time for 25 December.
Cllr Sue Little, Portfolio Holder for Social Care, said of the Give a Gift campaign: “Last year was simply overwhelming.
“The kindness demonstrated by local people and businesses was impressive – but unsurprising. The people of Thurrock are extremely community-minded and during a time where most of us are at home, warm and with our loved ones, our residents are donating to ensure no child goes without.”
