THERE is a Thurrock Council meeting tonight. As we reported last week, the deputy leader of UKIP has tabled a question in which he insists that Essex Police attend the remembrance service in Grays in November.
Cllr Jones has asked: “Would the Leader insist that members of Grays police station attend this year’s remembrance service at Grays memorial and stop the traffic for the minutes silence out of respect for all service personnel that have served and lost their lives fighting for Great Britain in many conflicts over the years”.
We asked Essex Police to detail their policing arrangements for Grays on Remembrance Sunday.
An Essex Police spokesperson said: “Seventy-eight Essex Police officers gave their lives for their country during wartime. As in every year, our officers will attend remembrance services across the county in a ceremonial capacity.
“Local authorities are responsible for closing roads during events”.
