Thurrock Council apologise over incorrect rent letters

A statement from Thurrock Council

“Thurrock Council would like to apologise after some housing tenants received letters this week giving incorrect rent information.

“The incident has been investigated and it appears that the instructions given to the Council’s housing management database to generate the letters resulted in some incorrect weeks being included in the rent calculation. This caused outstanding balances to be assessed without using the most recent data resulting in incorrect amounts being noted in the rent statements.

“The rent statements are advisory only, and this error has had no impact on any tenant’s actual liability or on how their rent account is managed. Direct debits in particular have not had to be adjusted as a result.

“The Council would like to apologise for any misunderstanding or concern caused. Revised letters with accurate figures will be issued at the beginning of next week.
