A FAMILY raised £635 for the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre after their mother had a lifesaving triple bypass.
Marie Chinnon, 75, from Grays, was on her way to her GP for an appointment in 2014 but she didn’t feel very well.
After listening to her heart with a stethoscope, her GP referred her to the specialist team and the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC).
She said: “I was walking to the doctor but I was feeling not quite well. He checked me over and referred me. Once I was at the CTC I had lots of tests and I ended up having triple bypass surgery in February 2014.
“My family and I wanted to do something to raise some money and give something back.”
Following her surgery, her family decided to organise a fundraising event where guests enjoyed an evening of musical entertainment, provided by a barbershop quartet, and a fish and chip supper. Over 60 people attended, including the Mayor of Thurrock.
Her daughter Danielle Chinnon, added: “It’s amazing really. Mum is back to normal and doing all the activities and things she was doing before her surgery. We’re so pleased to be able to give this money to the CTC and know that it will be used for something for future patients.”
Danny McCormack, acting general manager of the CTC, said: “It was a pleasure to meet such a lovely family and I am looking forward to telling her surgeon about how well Marie is doing.”
