ESSEX Wildlife Trust has decided to close the retail and café element of Chafford Gorges Visitor Centre, whilst the Trust carries out some “research into the most suitable, long-term, sustainable use of the Centre”.
A spokesperson said: “We will continue to work with the many schools in the area at the Visitor Centre, in fact we are hoping to increase this work in the near future, with more resources available to work with more children, families and schools.
We will also continue to manage the stunning, beautiful nature reserve for wildlife and people and the Ranger will continue to be based from the Visitor Centre.
As a conservation charity we simply cannot afford to keep the retail and café element of the Visitor Centre open for the very few visitors who are currently using it.
“We are implementing some detailed research to find the best way forward.”
i use the cafe quite often, its really nice when the weather is good to sit outside on the terrace.
What a ridiculous decision. I’ll be one of the many who will go somewhere else.
