Statement from Essex Police
“We have started a murder investigation following the death of a man in South Ockendon.
We were called by the ambulance service at around 3pm today (Thursday, December 14) to a man found injured near Dilkes Park in Foyle Drive.
It is believed the victim was assaulted by two men who made off from the scene in a car, described as silver or light-coloured.
Sadly the victim died at the scene.
We have cordoned off the area to allow investigations to take place.
Detective Chief Inspector Martin Pasmore, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: “This was a brazen assault in broad daylight in a busy part of South Ockendon.
“There would have been a lot of people around at the time of the attack and I believe there would have been a number of people who saw what happened.
“If you saw anything or have any videos or photos of the incident I need you to contact my team.
“I also believe this was a targeted attack and there is no risk to the wider public.”

YT has received reports that a number of the emergency services have been called to an incident in Dilkes Park, South Ockendon.
Alleged incident is said to be close to the Foyle Drive end.
The air ambulance landed just after 3pm.
Paramedics and police are also reported to be at the scene.
