A FURTHER road safety operation has been run around the intu Lakeside shopping centre under the Operation Christmas Presence banner.
It happened on Saturday, December 23, and saw almost 6,000 vehicles read on the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system and 217 being stopped on the roadside check.
Six people were arrested for offences including drink and drug driving, someone wanted on warrant and possession of an offensive weapon.
A further 46 people were not wearing a seatbelt, 21 were using their mobile phones at the wheel, 36 vehicles had no MOTs and 32 had tinted windows which did not comply with legal requirements.
Motorists are reminded that road traffic patrols will continue across the festive period. Please remember that if you are having a few Christmas tipples do not get behind the wheel of a vehicle.
