LABOUR’S John Kent piles pressure on the Conservatives as crime continues to spiral out of control in Thurrock

The Labour Party has continued to pile pressure on the Conservatives over the lack of police in Thurrock as the spate of crime across the borough continues.

Thurrock Labour has been reacting to residents’ concerns and calling for more police in Thurrock for many months now. Recent weeks have continued to show how seriously the lack of police is affecting local people’s lives with a wave of serious crimes including violent assault, theft, burglary, arson, vandalism and drink driving.

Speaking about the need for more police on our streets Labours Parliamentary candidate for Thurrock, John Kent, said “the level of crime in our neighbourhoods under the Conservatives is an utter disgrace. Under the Conservatives watch Essex has lost 787 police officers and the result has been entirely predictable.”

“Labour’s alternative plan for policing in Thurrock could not be clearer. A Labour government would reverse the Conservatives’ cuts for the very wealthiest few and use the money to recruit 10,000 more police to work on community beats. The choice in Thurrock is clear, a Conservative Party trying and failing to protect us on the cheap, or the

Labour Party’s plan to get more police on our streets and get crime in Thurrock back under control.”

The local Thurrock Labour Party has been running a high profile petition calling for more resources to be invested in policing in our borough, attracting the support of hundreds of residents.

Commenting on the petition Councillor Oliver Gerrish said “From Aveley to Stanford, and from Ockendon to Tilbury, all across Thurrock local people no longer feel safe in their own neighbourhood. This cannot go on. I am proud that Thurrock Labour is championing residents’ concerns and that our petition for more police has received so much support. With UKIP nowhere to be seen and the Conservatives failing to take action it is clear that Thurrock needs a Labour Council that takes crime seriously.”

  1. The only thing honest about this report is…your right, residents don’t feel safe in their homes.
    Lets put this into prospective.
    No police = more crime ( remember the old slogan..crime doesn’t pay..lol)
Labour’s spend, spend, spend still didn’t make a difference, so don’t give us that old Bull Mr Kent.
Murders, drugs, gangs, stabbings, burglaries, fights,..all happening on a huge scale now…why, no deterrent and Labour’s socialist kid glove approach will only see the problem get worse.
Time for hard line policies and capital punishment.

  2. Agree with Grammer boy. Be socialist on the NHS and Education but a right winger on crime and profiteering. otherwise it aint safe to walk the streets at night. says this Tilbury resident.
