Thurrock parents hit with heavy fines for failing to ensure children go to school

THURROCK Council continue to chase down parents who fail to ensure their children go to school.

Several cases went before the Basildon magistrates court last week (Jan 15th, 2018).

Five parents were fined a total in excess of £2,000.

A large number of the verdicts were proved in absence. One case has necessitated a warrant for the arrest of the parent.

The relevant offence is Section 444 (1) of the Education Act, 1996.

Very few details can be disclosed in cases such as these for legal reasons.


  1. The problem is there are a growing number of parents who see schools as no more than a free baby sitting service. Teachers have to problem of having to deal with disruptive pupils and those who want to learn suffer.
    This problem is far bigger than you think.
