THE first Vision Express at Tesco store has officially opened its doors, with a celebration in Thurrock – signaling the beginning of the national optical retailer’s rebrand of its network of almost 600 stores in the UK and Ireland.
The newly integrated store, located within Tesco Extra at the popular Lakeside retail park, was unveiled to local residents today (31st January), with help from Vision Express CEO, Jonathan Lawson. He declared the store open with a ribbon cutting ceremony and welcomed three new team members to the Vision Express family.
The opening follows Vision Express’ acquisition of Tesco Opticians at the end of 2017. And, Lakeside is one of the first stores in the national optical retailer’s network, to be designed in-line with the company’s recently refreshed corporate brand identity.
The new purple-infused brand – derived after a 12-month consultation – introduces a refreshed logo and updated store décor including striking purple and green colour accents internally, featuring bright sofas and wooden flooring throughout, delivering a more modern, inviting and vibrant environment to encourage customers to feel at ease.
Jonathan Lawson said: “Today marks a momentous day in Vision Express’ history as we unveil our first Vision Express at Tesco store. With fresh and inviting new branding, which is perfectly aligned to our ‘Vision.Taken Seriously’ ethos, we look forward to welcoming new and existing customers through our doors.
“It’s fantastic to officially begin our rebrand programme with a celebration at our new Lakeside store. This acquisition allows us to offer a thorough and expert optical service to reach more people in even more convenient locations, ensuring former Tesco Optician customers experience seamless eye health services.”
In preparation for the expected increase in demand for frames prompted by the Tesco Opticians acquisition, a £1.5 million investment has been made at Vision Express’ Nottingham-based Technical Centre.
The national home of Vision Express’ laboratory, the Technical Centre currently produces more than one million pairs of glasses a year but following the investment, production capacity is expected to double during 2018.
The upgrade includes a remodelling to expand the production space into an area previously set aside for the warehouse, allowing more frames to be processed. In addition, sophisticated edging technology has been purchased, to deliver a quicker and more efficient finish to lenses.
The specialist glazing team is also expected to grow in response to the expansion, with a focus on developing the skills and knowledge of the current, wider team into expert glazing roles.
