Thurrock Ladies 1s 0 vs Chelmsford 3s 1
THURROCK started slow against Chelmsford’s quick team and conceded a goal early on in the match so focused all their efforts onto the defending part of the game. The game levelled out and Thurrock had many attempts on goal and lots of penalty corners but unfortunately couldn’t turn these into points. Some great runs down the side line by Natalie Beardwell earned her player of the match. Thurrock play Wapping 4s at home next week.
Thurrock Ladies 2s 0 vs Basildon 3s 1
A much changed Thurrock side took time to settle into the game and went 1-0 down in the first half. After a positive half time team talk and with the team gaining in confidence, Thurrock had more attacking opportunities and Alison Bonner was really close to equalising with a penalty corner which went just wide. Basildon’s attacks were well defended, but Thurrock couldn’t quite get the goal to share the points with the opposition. Thurrock’s player of the match was Alison Bonner for her tiresome effort upfront.
Thurrock Ladies 3s 0 vs Southend 2s 5
Thurrock ladies 3s welcomed back Sian Jenkins after nearly a year out with a fractured coccyx. She started on the bench and watched her team mates start the match really well attacking Southend’s goal and defending their own effectively. Thurrock held them level but after battling for 20 minutes Southend started to dominate the possession and scored their 1st goal. Thurrock were not down hearted by this and even after losing Fay Tuffee for 2 minutes when she got green carded after a difference of opinion with the umpire, they still kept battling.
Thurrock started the 2nd half 2 goals down but back to 11 players. They tried to push up and get on the score sheet but this left them a bit open at the back and Southend ruthlessly capitalised on this. Special mentions for Tracey Martin and Sally Taylor for giving 100% the entire match. Girl of the game was split between Abby Pollock and Claire Brosnan.
