Woodside Academy celebrate Book Week

Woodside Book

IN spite of the snow, Woodside Academy had an amazing World Book Day on 1st March, with a David Walliams theme ensuring plenty of “Gangster Grannies” and “Demon Dentists” from staff and children.

This was part of the school’s book week and children had already enjoyed Oliver Twist, from M&M Theatrical Productions inspiring them to read Dickens for themselves.

There was a great response to the school’s competitions – especially the “reading in unusual places” photo competition (winner illustrated).

Local author Denis Thompson was unable to come as planned on World Book day, as other schools on his itinerary were closed, but made up for it the following Thursday, inspiring children to be writers as well as readers.
